It may surprise some but podiatry plays a critical role in preventing lower leg amputations due to diabetes, and such eye-popping facts should be much better known later this month.

On the 14th November 2016, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) will launch their 2016 campaign ‘Eyes on Diabetes’, with the objective being to raise awareness of diabetes throughout the world: what it’s like to live with diabetes and the complications that come with diabetes.

Another fact not widely known is that diabetes is one of the key causes of blindness, but it is also the leading cause of lower limb amputations, with most cases occurring in people with type 2 diabetes.
